Michelle Hok
She/Her
Senior Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, Adelaide Fringe

Before joining Adelaide Fringe, I spent five and a half years in the South Australian Public Sector, working across human resources, organisational development, and diversity and inclusion roles. I hold a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from the University of Adelaide, completed in 2017.

Transitioning from a corporate environment to the fast-paced world of festivals has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. At Fringe, I’ve had the opportunity to lead and implement strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in an environment where no two days are the same.

Coming into the arts from outside the industry, I wish I’d known more about how an open-access festival like Adelaide Fringe operates—it’s a uniquely dynamic space!

For anyone considering a career in the arts, my advice is to explore the wide range of roles available—whether in strategy, programming, production, business development, marketing, or beyond. I didn’t volunteer or intern before entering the sector—I jumped straight in—and sometimes that’s the best way to learn quickly and grow fast.
