Cailin Hughes
She/Her
Hospitality Supervisor, Adelaide Oval
I work at Adelaide Oval as a Functions and Events Supervisor. I Supervise events such as dinners, corporate events, breakfasts, lunches, meetings, anything really you name it. The events I supervise currently can have anywhere from 10 to 500 guests, but I’ve also been a staff member for functions that have had over 1000 people attending. I work with teams that hold up to 30 staff including waiters, bar staff and chefs all working together to create amazing events.
I first started at Adelaide Oval in 2020 as a Trainee, after graduating high school. The traineeship was for 2 years and throughout those 2 years I studied through TAFE to get my cert III in hospitality certificate, I completed a barista course, learnt bartending skills, set up and waitress skills and got to experience what working at Adelaide Oval is really like.
After completing my traineeship, I moved into a Full time Team Leader Role and from there got the opportunity to apply and become a Full time Supervisor for Functions and Events.
To get into the role of supervisor I didn’t specifically need any degree, I chose to do the traineeship and throughout those two years and completing the cert 4, it helped immensely. I am currently undertaking a cert IV Leadership and Management course to help further my development within my role and future roles.
Throughout my 4 years working at Adelaide Oval, I have developed work and life skills and have made lifelong friends and colleges. In the Adelaide Oval work environment, it is very learn as you go, no other workplace could compare, with this I recommend just going for it, jumping into the new job eager to learn, taking every opportunity to develop your skills within the workplace.
