AFF Youth

The Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) is a celebration of Australian and international screen culture with a distinctive curated program that includes premiere screenings, special events, awards and forums that attract industry and the general public.

AFF Youth is the newest and youngest arm of the acclaimed Adelaide Film Festival, supported by the South Australian Department for Education.

AFF Youth prepares a new generation of bold content makers and brave audiences by fostering a creative career pathway and by showing young people the best of global content for youth. The program comprises:

  • Schools Filmmaking Competition with cash prizes
  • Creative Industries Program – Expo
  • Screenings of feature films, shorts & TV plus meet the filmmaker opportunities
  • Exceptional VR works
  • Online and IRL workshops

Sales will be by individual tickets as well as packages for full and ½ days.We are calling for submissions from local, Australian and international professional filmmakers for shorts, feature films including feature documentaries, TV series (single and multi-episode) and VR (drama, documentary, hybrid, experimental and animation).

The creative industries is valued at $125m to South Australia. Nationally, it has been one of the fastest-growing employment sectors – doubling at twice the rate of the Australian workforce.

Creative Industries Expo (Wednesday July 28)

On Wednesday in the middle of the festival, we will give students access to the SA creative industries – screen, games and VFX. Participants will include major companies such as Rising Sun Pictures and Mighty Kingdom as well as the tertiary sector. We aim to demonstrate to students the contemporary career pathway into the creative industries sector.

An industry workshop and discussion program will also be part of AFF Youth.

Schools Filmmaking Competition (Closes May 24)

We also actively welcome shorts submissions from all youth for our national and international program and from South Australian school children, primary, middle and high schools for our Staweide Schhols Filmmaking Competition.

AFF Youth acknowledges the legacy of the Adelaide Youth International Film Festival for laying the foundation for a substantial youth film festival in Adelaide.
